What is confidence?
Confidence is a mindset. Confidence is experience. Confidence is practice. Confidence is a choice.
The dictionary definition is: “a feeling of self-assurance arising from an appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities”
So, how do we do that? Why are we confident at some things and not others?
I mean, everyone is confident at something, in fact, we are all confident at lots of things: walking, eating, talking. We don’t even think about these things. Its because we have been doing them for so long, it’s now an ingrained skill. Anything can be a skill, if you decide you want it enough, and practice enough.
The more you do something, the better you get, and so the more confident you become. You start to believe in yourself.
We tell ourselves stories about why we can’t do things, we try something once and it goes wrong so we can’t do it. We need to try again, and again, then one day, you will be able to do it, whatever it is.
Lack of confidence becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you believe you can’t , then you probably won’t, but if you believe you can, then you probably will.
The trick is to decide what it is you really want, then take small steps towards it. Keep the momentum going, progress not perfection, confidence will grow, and keep growing.
